Executive Sous Chef Alfred Cabacungan has had an infatuation for culinary excellence for over 20 years.
Cabacungan was born and raised in Hawaii and graduated from Castle High School in Kaneohe, HI. After receiving his Culinary Arts Certificate from Kapiolani Community College, Cabacungan began to truly develop his culinary skills and became a certified cook. From 1992-1996, Cabacungan showcased his skills in several Hawaii culinary competitions earning a bronze and two gold metals for his endeavors.
Cabacungan's expertise has continued to grow over the years as he has filled positions at some of the most luxurious hotel properties in Hawaii. After working as a Chef de Partie at the Kahala Hilton Hotel in Honolulu, Cabacungan took the position of Junior Sous Chef at the Westin Resorts Macau property. The next step in his career began when he became the Chef Tournant at the prestigious Halekulani Hotel in Honolulu.
Cabacungan kicked-off his career with Starwood as a Sous Chef at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel before beginning his current position of Executive Sous Chef at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. In his current position, Cabacungan oversees the Surf Room Restaurant, the Mai Tai Bar, the Pool Snack Bar and various catering events.
